Celtic Accused of Stirring the Pot Amid Rangers’ Turmoil
Celtic have been accused of provoking tensions at Rangers following the release of an official club statement, which some believe was deliberately timed.
Rangers’ ongoing struggles have been well-documented this season, with last weekend’s Scottish Cup humiliation against Queen’s Park still fresh in the minds of fans. Despite the embarrassing defeat, Philippe Clement has managed to keep his job, with the club’s Europa League campaign now the only silver lining in an otherwise forgettable season.
From Rangers’ perspective, the situation is made even worse by Celtic’s dominance. The Hoops have already secured one domestic trophy and are on track to win two more, while also competing in the Champions League, where they trail Bayern Munich 2-1 ahead of the second leg in Germany next week.
Celtic’s Financial Statement Raises Eyebrows
Just a day after Rangers’ shock defeat to Queen’s Park, Celtic published their latest financial accounts—a move that some, including journalist Hugh Keevins, believe may not have been a coincidence.
Writing in his Daily Record column (15 February), Keevins speculated:
“It may have been coincidence or plain old mischief-making, but, 24 hours after Rangers’ impoverished performance in the cup, Celtic announced their latest financial figures.”
Clement Under Pressure, But Rangers’ Hands May Be Tied
Even if Rangers reach the Europa League final, it may not be enough to salvage a disastrous domestic season. Clement’s future remains uncertain, but financial constraints could be preventing the board from making a managerial change.
For now, Rangers’ only real hope of salvaging their season lies in Europe. Domestically, their remaining league fixtures—starting with Sunday’s trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts—are increasingly seen as meaningless.
That’s the harsh reality, and it seems Rangers fans have already accepted it.
