Rangers Facing Transfer Setback as Key Player Nears Exit

Rangers have suffered a transfer setback, with one of their key players seemingly on the verge of leaving Ibrox despite manager Philippe Clement’s desire to keep him at the club.

A Challenging Season for Rangers

It has been a difficult campaign for Rangers, with Clement’s squad likely to finish the season without any silverware. A poor start in the Scottish Premiership saw them fall significantly behind Celtic, and despite a recent derby victory, they remain 13 points adrift of their Glasgow rivals.

Their domestic struggles were further compounded by an unexpected Scottish Cup exit at the hands of second-tier Queen’s Park in the fourth round. Additionally, they suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final, effectively ending their chances of securing domestic trophies this season.

However, their Europa League campaign has been a bright spot, as they secured automatic progression to the next round with impressive performances, including a victory over OGC Nice and a draw against Tottenham. Yet, with teams like Spurs, Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Lyon still in the competition, Rangers remain outsiders in the quest for European glory.

Clement’s own future at the club has been under scrutiny, especially after the Scottish Cup humiliation, which led to boos from the Rangers faithful. But he might not be the only departure from Ibrox before the new season.

Ianis Hagi Edging Closer to an Exit

According to Football Insider, Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi is nearing a move away from Ibrox, despite Clement’s desire to retain him. Hagi missed the first half of the season due to a contract dispute but has since played a crucial role, registering three goals and five assists in the Scottish Premiership.

His performances have earned praise, with Romanian legend Ilie Dumitrescu calling him “sensational” after an outstanding display, where he scored against Kasper Schmeichel.

In January, Clement openly expressed his wish to keep Hagi at the club, stating:

“I don’t have a clue what numbers Ianis has in mind, or the club. So there will be discussions between them. Of course, I’m happy with how Ianis is performing.”

Despite this, reports suggest that multiple clubs are now preparing bids, with fears growing that Hagi could leave for free. Torino and Fenerbahçe have both registered interest, and if he becomes available on a free transfer, a battle for his signature is expected.
