Kris Boyd remains frustrated with Philippe Clement despite Rangers securing a 3-1 victory over Hearts on Sunday.

The Gers left Tynecastle Park with three crucial points on 16 February, thanks to two own goals from Jamie McCart and a fortunate second-half strike from Vaclav Cerny.

Despite the result, Neil Critchley’s side dominated large portions of the game, making Clement’s post-match satisfaction all the more puzzling.

Kris Boyd criticizes Philippe Clement’s post-match comments

Rangers fans will undoubtedly be pleased with the win, especially after their recent loss to Queen’s Park. However, the team’s performance was far from convincing, with few positives to take from their display in EH11.

Clement, however, praised his squad’s response and mentality, referencing Hearts’ strong form in 2025. His remarks didn’t sit well with Boyd, who questioned the manager’s perspective during Sky Sports Football (2:20 pm).

Boyd remarked:

“I don’t know, sometimes I think Philippe Clement has watched a different game.

“Hearts caused Rangers all sorts of problems. Yes, Rangers won, but when I look at big clubs in other countries—and even Celtic in Scotland—they dominate games.

“They have better players, spend more on wages, and control matches. I never see that from Rangers. There are moments when they look dangerous, but then they fall back into the same old patterns.”

Rangers fortunate to claim victory

Regardless of Clement’s post-match optimism, Hearts were arguably the better side and may feel hard done by.

Without the heroics of Jack Butland in goal, the outcome at Tynecastle could have been very different. Meanwhile, Ianis Hagi stood out as one of the few bright sparks, showcasing his creative quality above his teammates.

Ultimately, individual performances bailed Clement out, allowing him to focus on the positives post-match. However, many fans would have preferred a more critical assessment, acknowledging the struggles rather than painting an overly optimistic picture.

With little left to play for this season, Clement’s upbeat tone may only frustrate supporters further as the campaign progresses.
