Leeds United Receive Transfer Boost as Elvedi’s Price Drops
Leeds United may feel fortunate after learning that one of their January transfer targets, Nico Elvedi, has seen his valuation drop by £2.5 million ahead of the summer window.
During the January transfer window, Leeds were linked with several players but ultimately made no first-team additions in their push for promotion. The only signing was young goalkeeper Robbie Cook, who has initially joined the development squad.
Despite this, Daniel Farke’s side remains in strong form, with many backing them to secure the Championship title. Monday night’s clash against Sunderland could prove to be a pivotal moment in their promotion bid.
If Leeds do return to the Premier League, Farke and the club’s owners will need to strengthen the squad significantly, as their current depth may not be sufficient for top-flight competition. One key area requiring reinforcement is central defense, which is notably thin.
Leeds United Benefit from Nico Elvedi’s Price Reduction
Among the defenders linked with Leeds in January was Borussia Monchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi. Farke, who previously worked with the 56-cap Swiss international, remains interested in a reunion. Initially valued at £10 million, Elvedi’s price has now reportedly dropped to £7.5 million, according to TeamTalk.
The report also states that Elvedi is eager to secure a summer move to either a Premier League club or another top European side. If Leeds achieve promotion, they could find themselves in a prime position to land the 28-year-old.
So far in the 2024/25 season, Elvedi has made 15 Bundesliga appearances, with Monchengladbach currently in 8th place, just one point shy of the European qualification spots.
Elvedi Weighing His Options Ahead of Summer Move
Elvedi is likely aware of Leeds’ interest, regardless of whether formal talks have taken place. However, earlier reports suggested that he intends to wait until the summer before making a decision on his future. Wolves have also been linked with the defender.
Currently, Wolves sit just two points above the Premier League relegation zone, meaning a potential swap in league standings between them and Leeds could significantly benefit the latter. Monchengladbach’s reduced asking price only strengthens Leeds’ chances of securing a deal.
Should Leeds achieve promotion, they will gain substantial Premier League revenue, allowing them to fund potential moves for Elvedi and other reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
