Rangers Maintain Strong Interest in Lawrence Shankland as Hearts Exit Looms

Lawrence Shankland remains heavily linked with a move to Rangers, with his Hearts contract nearing its expiration.

The 29-year-old striker is expected to leave Tynecastle at the end of the season and is already eligible to negotiate pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of Scotland. While Rangers cannot yet engage in formal discussions, the club continues to be the frontrunner for his signature, with many believing he could be a major bargain.

Rangers Urged to Secure Shankland Deal

Shankland’s fitness has been scrutinized amid the ongoing speculation, but recent reports suggest he would have no issues passing a medical at Ibrox.

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has openly expressed his desire to see Shankland in a Light Blues shirt. Speaking to Ibrox News, Ferguson emphasized the striker’s leadership qualities and goal-scoring ability, despite his dip in form this season.

“Hearts had a rough start, and they’ve leaned on Shankland a lot. His all-around play remains strong, but he’s rushed some chances. Still, when you can get a proven goal scorer for free—who’s a captain, a leader, and a lifelong Rangers fan—it’s a no-brainer.”

“I hope someone at Rangers is working behind the scenes to make this happen.”

Shankland’s Goal Record in the Scottish Premiership

Shankland’s goal tally this season has been less impressive, with just four goals in 21 league appearances for Hearts. This is a stark contrast to his prolific form last campaign, where he netted 24 goals in 37 matches, finishing as the league’s top scorer—four ahead of Rangers’ James Tavernier.

Across the past two seasons, Shankland has recorded 52 goals in 95 league outings for Hearts, proving his lethal finishing ability.

If Rangers can secure him on a free transfer, as Ferguson suggests, it could be a huge coup for sporting director Nils Koppen and his recruitment team.
