Rangers have responded to reports regarding a potential takeover by American investors.
Speculation has been mounting, with a consortium backed by the San Francisco 49ers reportedly in “advanced” negotiations to acquire shares in the club.
While not ruling out the possibility, a spokesperson for Rangers emphasized that any discussions will remain private at this stage.
“It is not our policy to comment on speculation,” they stated. “If there were any such discussions, these would remain confidential.”

Barry Ferguson Reacts to Takeover Rumors
Speaking on Go Radio, former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson expressed keen interest in the prospect of American investment arriving at Ibrox.
“It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it,” Ferguson remarked. “One of the key responsibilities of the new chairman and chief executive is to bring in external investment—it’s been obvious for some time that the club needs it. Hopefully, that happens in the coming months.”
Ferguson believes that if potential investors are willing to pay a fair price for shares, existing shareholders would likely agree to a deal.
“You always want what’s best for the club. If someone is coming in and paying what the shares are worth, I’d expect shareholders to consider it,” he added.
“But it’s not just about acquiring shares—new investors must also inject funds into the club. That’s exactly what’s needed. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet, but it’s reassuring to see movement behind the scenes.”
He reiterated that securing fresh investment is a top priority for Rangers’ leadership moving forward.
“It’s crystal clear that new funds are required. Ensuring that happens is one of the biggest challenges for the new chairman and chief executive.”
