Rangers on the Verge of American Ownership as Key Figures Identified

Rangers appear set for a major transition, with an American consortium expected to take control of the club by the end of the current season. Early indications suggest Patrick Stewart will be among those retained in a senior role.

The club has endured a disappointing campaign, with ongoing regression largely attributed to a lack of investment. As a result, Rangers have struggled to keep pace with Celtic, and without significant changes, that trend seemed likely to continue.

However, a shift in fortunes may be on the horizon, as discussions are underway for US investors to assume ownership. Reports indicate that the group has already begun assessing senior staff at Ibrox.

Patrick Stewart Likely to Remain at Rangers

According to Mail Online (20 February), Stewart is expected to be one of only two senior figures retained, with widespread changes anticipated. Fraser Thornton, recently appointed as chairman, is the other individual likely to keep his position.

The report further states that while the new owners will not be able to inject large sums into the club immediately, they plan to strengthen the club’s financial position over time, leading to future investment. Initially, the focus will be on improving operations off the pitch while ensuring the squad remains competitive across all competitions.

This season, however, has been far from successful. A shock defeat to Queen’s Park ended any hopes of domestic silverware, leaving the Europa League as the only remaining—albeit unlikely—path to success.

The 49ers Enterprises have already made a significant impact at Leeds United, putting them on course for Premier League promotion after falling short last season.

A Fresh Start Under New Ownership

Rangers have struggled to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title since Steven Gerrard’s departure. However, if the 49ers Enterprises secure control, the club’s future could take a promising turn.

Investment is essential across multiple areas at Ibrox, and if the new owners can deliver, success may follow—a welcome change after years of underachievement.
