Norwich City will welcome Stoke City this weekend as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad aims to return to winning form.
The Canaries are currently on a three-match winless streak in the league, leaving them four points shy of the play-off positions. This dip in results has seen them drop to 12th in the table, trailing behind promotion rivals West Brom and Blackburn Rovers in their push for a top-six spot.
In their last outing, Norwich secured a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Hull City, with Josh Sargent finding the net early in the second half to rescue a point after falling behind at the MKM Stadium.
Kenny McLean’s Potential Return
Discussing possible changes for the upcoming Stoke clash, Football League World’s Norwich fan pundit suggested reinstating Kenny McLean into the starting lineup—provided he is available.
The midfielder’s experience and stability in the center of the park are seen as invaluable, making him a key figure in the team whenever fit.
“The only change I’d probably make from the last game would be swapping out [Jacob] Sorensen for McLean if he’s back,” pundit Downes told Football League World.
“[Marcelino] Nunez is another uncertain one, but if McLean is fit, I’d definitely bring him back in to solidify the midfield and add experience.
“We always notice how much we miss McLean when he’s not in the team. He’s incredibly underrated and plays a huge role in how we build our attacks. So, if he’s available, he’d be the first change I’d make.”
McLean’s Availability Would Be a Boost for Norwich
Thorup is reportedly optimistic that McLean will be ready to face Stoke after missing the Hull match due to illness. His return would provide a significant lift for the team, given his importance in midfield.
As one of Norwich’s highest earners—reportedly earning £25,000 per week according to Capology—McLean’s presence highlights his value to the squad.
Marcelino Nunez is also in contention for a return, though Thorup may opt to ease both players back in from the bench if they are not fully fit.
With the play-off race tightening, Norwich must end their poor run quickly to avoid slipping further behind their promotion rivals.
