Craig Moore Predicts Exciting Times Ahead for Rangers Amid Takeover Talks

Former Rangers captain Craig Moore believes the club could be on the verge of a positive transformation as key takeover discussions progress at Ibrox.

The current season has been a frustrating one for the Light Blues, with inconsistent performances and disappointing results leaving them far from where they aspire to be. However, with reports suggesting that 49ers Enterprises are in advanced negotiations to acquire a majority stake in the club, there is renewed optimism about the future.

Moore: 49ers Won’t Spend Big on Rangers Squad Immediately

While Philippe Clement is currently leading the team, Moore insists that the club’s struggles go beyond the manager. Although Clement bears some responsibility for Rangers’ inconsistency on the pitch, the club’s broader issues stem from years of mismanagement at the boardroom level, particularly regarding finances.

Rangers now find themselves trailing Celtic by 13 points in the league, with the Europa League as their only remaining cup competition. Given this situation, speculation surrounding the 49ers’ potential takeover has sparked hope among supporters.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Moore expressed enthusiasm about the possible investment but cautioned that financial restrictions would prevent an immediate spending spree.

“I think we’ve spoken about Rangers’ situation for a long time,” Moore said. “For the club to truly reach the next level, I’ve always believed outside investment was crucial.

“That’s been difficult due to the way the club has been run and the fact that shareholders weren’t always aligned. Progression was challenging, but I’m encouraged by the current discussions.

“Fresh investment is vital, but that doesn’t mean millions will suddenly be thrown at the squad. Financial rules still apply. However, the club has underperformed on and off the pitch for years, and now is a great time for change. While things won’t happen overnight, I believe by next season, Rangers could be in a much stronger position, giving fans real optimism.”

Rangers Must Usher in a New Era Without Clement

Despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren on Saturday (February 22), there has been no immediate indication that Rangers’ board is planning a managerial change. Some believe financial constraints are the main reason Clement remains in charge.

Regardless of how the rest of the season unfolds, it’s clear that Clement has struggled to convince supporters that he is the right man to lead the club forward. Fans aren’t demanding the impossible—they simply want to see a team capable of competing at the top and striving for success.

As Moore pointed out, Rangers have needed significant investment and a clear vision for progress for some time. If the new owners complete a takeover, they must act decisively to reshape the club’s future. That could mean leaving Clement and the current board behind as Rangers enter a new chapter.
