Republic of Ireland International Robbie Brady Faces Uncertain Future at Preston as Contract Nears Expiry

Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom has hinted that Robbie Brady’s future at the club remains undecided, with his contract set to expire this summer. The Republic of Ireland international, alongside teammates Freddie Woodman, Ryan Ledson, and Emil Riis, is in the final months of his deal at Deepdale.

Brady, who joined Preston in the summer of 2022, has made 88 appearances—his second-most for any club in his career. The 33-year-old grabbed headlines last weekend with a stunning free-kick against his former club Burnley, helping PNE secure a 3-0 victory in the FA Cup fifth round.

Injury setbacks have limited Brady to just 20 appearances this season, but Heckingbottom has acknowledged his contributions when fit. The manager emphasized that a well-thought-out decision will be made regarding Brady’s contract situation.

“Yeah, looking at them all,” Heckingbottom told the Lancashire Post. “We need to be sensible. The money we have is tied up in the squad, so once we understand our financial position, we can make informed choices. My focus is on pushing and working with our players. Robbie has been unlucky with injuries, but I just want him fit and playing for the rest of the season. Hopefully, we’ll see more performances like that from him.”

Brady Open to Staying but Decision Lies with the Club

Brady has arguably delivered some of his best performances for Preston this season when available, despite early doubts over his suitability for the wing-back role. Under Heckingbottom, his experience and quality have been evident, and the Irishman has expressed a desire to remain at Deepdale.

“Yeah, of course,” Brady admitted. “It’s in the club’s hands at the moment, so we’ll have to wait and see. I think I’ve performed well when I’ve played this season. I felt great in pre-season and at the start of the campaign, but I picked up a couple of freak injuries that no one could have predicted. Overall, I’ve felt good throughout and believe I’ve been in decent form when on the pitch.”

With his contract winding down, the coming months will be crucial in determining Brady’s future at Preston North End.
