A familiar name from Texas’ former conference could soon join Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff.
Sarkisian has guided the Longhorns to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances, with hopes of contending for a national title once again in 2025. To strengthen his staff, he may turn to a former Big 12 adversary—ex-West Virginia head coach Neal Brown—per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Brown was dismissed by the Mountaineers following the 2024 season after leading the team to a 6–6 record. During his tenure at WVU, he posted a 37–35 record, following a successful four-year stint as head coach at Troy. Brown also has ties to both Texas and the SEC, having previously served as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky and Texas Tech.
While his potential role at Texas remains uncertain, Brown has primarily worked with quarterbacks and wide receivers throughout his coaching career.
Sarkisian and Brown were rivals in the Big 12 for three seasons, splitting their two meetings. West Virginia won their 2021 home matchup in Morgantown, 31–23, while Texas got revenge in Austin the following year with a 38–20 victory.
