McCoist Left Stunned by Rangers Manager Rumors

Rangers Continue Search for Permanent Manager

Barry Ferguson remains in interim charge at Ibrox, a decision that has been well received by many fans, despite concerns about his managerial inexperience at the top level.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that the 47-year-old could secure the position permanently if he impresses by the end of the season. His strong backing from the Ibrox faithful, due to his past as Rangers’ club captain, could work in his favor.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard is also being discussed as a potential appointment, especially with 49ers Enterprises closing in on a takeover. Having guided Rangers to a Scottish Premiership title in his previous stint, the Liverpool icon could be tempted by a return to Glasgow.

Another name in the frame is Kevin Muscat, who currently manages Chinese side Shanghai Port. A former Rangers player himself, Muscat brings more managerial experience than Ferguson, making him a credible option.

McCoist in Shock Over Benitez Link

During talkSPORT’s breakfast show on Monday [via Glasgow World], Rangers legend Ally McCoist was left stunned when Jeff Stelling suggested that Rafa Benitez could take over at Ibrox. “I’m a bit speechless. You’ve beat me with that,” McCoist admitted, adding that Benitez, like Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, would need a stronger squad to work with.

Stelling went on to outline why the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss could be a logical choice for Rangers, highlighting his vast European and top-level experience, as well as his availability.

Benitez boasts an impressive managerial CV, including winning the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool and the 2013 Europa League with Chelsea. Despite his history with Liverpool, he still managed to bring success to Stamford Bridge.

A seasoned tactician, Benitez could be the figure to help Rangers close the gap on Celtic, particularly if the 49ers provide him with the necessary resources in the transfer market.

It remains uncertain whether the 64-year-old is a serious contender, but given his winning pedigree, Rangers may see value in exploring the possibility. While Gerrard remains a strong candidate, opting for the more experienced Benitez could prove to be the wiser move.
