Rangers fans will be expecting the squad overhaul at Ibrox to continue this summer, ensuring the team can once again compete for domestic trophies.
With an American takeover of the club seemingly close and the Light Blues enduring a disappointing season in Scotland, reinforcements will be in high demand in the coming months.
For now, though, supporters can turn their focus to Europe, with Rangers leading Fenerbahce 3-1 on aggregate ahead of the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie at Ibrox on 13 March. Barry Fergusonās side will look to finish the job against Jose Mourinhoās men.
Rangers Urged to Sign Olusanya from St Mirren
Under the recruitment guidance of Nils Koppen, Rangers had aimed to provide former manager Philippe Clement with a squad capable of retaining at least one domestic trophy this season. However, that has not materialized, and the team finds itself stranded in second place in the Scottish Premiership. Their hopes now rest on another memorable European campaign under Ferguson.
Hugh Keevins, writing in the Sunday Mail (9 March), has called on Rangers to make a move for St Mirren forward Toyosi Olusanya, who played a key role in Clementās final game in charge on 22 February.
The 27-year-old has climbed through the ranks of English non-league football to establish himself in Scotland, recording nine goal contributions, including eight goals, this season. With his contract in Paisley expiring this summer, Keevins believes Rangers and other Scottish clubs should act fast to secure his services.
Highlighting Olusanyaās performances against both Celtic and Rangers in recent weeks, Keevins wrote:
āThis is the guy who terrorized Auston Trusty and then Liam Scales during Celticās hard-fought win in Paisley last week.
A game that came a week after Olusanya bullied, and scored against, Rangersā shellshocked defence in the win that cost Philippe Clement his job at Ibrox.
Keevins also pointed out that Hamza Igamaneās goalless streak for Rangers has now stretched into double figures, making Olusanya an attractive option as a soon-to-be free agent.
āMaybe Iām missing something,ā he added.
Ferguson Can Be Satisfied with His AttackāFor Now
Despite their struggles this season, Rangers’ recent performances suggest their attack is in decent shape.
Cyriel Dessers has hit top form, matching his 22-goal tally from last season with a standout display in Istanbulāwhere he was only denied a hat-trick by two marginal offside calls.
Danilo, though hampered by injuries, has shown promise, while Igamaneās 10-game goal drought is less concerning given that he has played the full 90 minutes in only four of those matches.
Goals are also coming from wide areas, particularly through Vaclav Cerny, who has proven to be a game-changer. If Rangers are serious about strengthening, securing Cerny on a permanent deal should be a priority.
That said, Keevins makes a valid point about Olusanya. His contract situation makes him an affordable target, his wages wouldnāt be an issue, and he has already demonstrated his ability to perform in big games. If Rangers are looking for attacking reinforcements, he is certainly worth considering.
