Rangers are moving closer to finalizing their US-based takeover.
Their penalty shootout victory over Fenerbahce last night injected some much-needed optimism into Ibrox after an otherwise underwhelming season.
With early exits from both domestic cups and an underwhelming league campaign, the pressure is on the Light Blues to find success in the Europa League.
While performances on the pitch are what fans focus on, Rangers’ decline in recent seasons has largely stemmed from poor decision-making and a lack of investment at the top. However, that could soon change with the 49ers’ takeover nearing completion.
Cavenagh remains reserved on Rangers takeover
Cavenagh, a key figure in the takeover, was in attendance at Ibrox last night to watch Rangers secure their place in the Europa League quarterfinals.
Following the match, he was asked about the progress of the deal but remained tight-lipped, though his smile hinted at positive developments.
In a video shared by Sky Sports Scotland on X (March 14), Cavenagh was questioned on whether the takeover was close, to which he simply responded: “Great match tonight, just here to support the club.”
While his words revealed little, his presence and demeanor should give Rangers fans plenty of encouragement.
Fresh hope at Ibrox
Beyond their win against Fenerbahce, Rangers supporters have another reason for optimism with the club’s ownership situation seemingly moving in the right direction.
For too long, they have struggled to keep pace with Celtic, but with the right investment and leadership, they could soon bridge that gap.
For now, Rangers’ focus remains on two major challenges—the upcoming Old Firm derby and their Europa League quarterfinal against Athletic Bilbao in April.
