Andrew Cavenagh, a key figure in Rangers’ potential new American ownership, was in attendance at Ibrox to witness the club’s dramatic Europa League victory over Fenerbahce.

Rangers are on the brink of a takeover by a US-led consortium, spearheaded by healthcare tycoon Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises. The £100 million deal will see the American investors acquire a 51% stake in the club, with completion expected by the end of May.

Cavenagh was present as Rangers edged past Fenerbahce in a tense penalty shootout, securing a place in the Europa League quarter-finals. Following the match, Sky Sports approached him for comment, but he remained reserved on takeover discussions.

“I’m just here to support the club,” Cavenagh said. “A great match tonight. Have a wonderful night.” He then departed, soaking in an unforgettable first experience of Ibrox.

Reports indicate that the American investors will need to spend around £100 million to secure their majority stake in Rangers.

Rangers Have an Ideal Takeover Announcement Date

Rangers progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals after a dramatic shootout win against Fenerbahce, with Jack Butland emerging as the hero. Despite a 2-0 defeat on the night, their 3-1 victory in Turkey proved decisive. Next up, they face Athletic Bilbao, with the first leg at Ibrox set for April 10.

Cavenagh’s presence at Ibrox on such a thrilling evening reinforces speculation that the takeover is nearing completion. The broad terms of the deal are reportedly in place, with due diligence now underway as former chairman Dave King seeks to solidify his Ibrox legacy.

As for the official takeover announcement, Rangers fans may have a date in mind. With Celtic 16 points clear in the Scottish Premiership and poised to equal Rangers’ record of 55 league titles, their inevitable title win will dominate headlines. However, if Rangers were to announce their US takeover on the same day, it could shift the focus of Scottish football’s biggest story.
