McCoist couldn’t help but see the humor in the controversial moment during Rangers’ post-match celebrations.
Ally McCoist admitted he probably shouldn’t have laughed at Vaclav Cerny squirting water towards Celtic fans—but that didn’t stop him from breaking into uncontrollable hysterics live on air.
Hamza Igamane may have sealed the dramatic 3-2 victory for Barry Ferguson’s side at Parkhead, but it was winger Cerny who stole the spotlight as the match’s pantomime villain.
Just moments after being substituted, Sky Sports cameras captured the Czech winger spraying water into the face of a Celtic supporter amid the chaotic celebrations—a move that enraged the home fans and prompted security and police intervention.
The incident quickly became a major talking point, sparking debate and an influx of memes across social media. It was also a hot topic on McCoist’s talkSPORT show, where he discussed it with Andy Townsend and Shebahn Aherne at the start of the morning broadcast.
McCoist, barely able to contain his laughter, kicked off the discussion by saying: “By the way, what about Cerny? Come on, I thought you were going to call me out on this. I shouldn’t laugh!”
As McCoist struggled to regain his composure, Aherne chimed in: “Did you see that? There’s a video of Vaclav Cerny after Igamane scored the third goal—he runs past the Celtic fans and skooshes water right into one poor guy’s face. As a Celtic fan, I should be outraged, but honestly, it was housery at its finest.”
McCoist agreed, still chuckling: “The ultimate housery! Then he casually strolled back into the dugout. Safe to say he doesn’t visit Glasgow too often. Man alive!”
