Preston North End are monitoring midfielder Jacob Wright, even though his loan move to Norwich City from Manchester City includes a buy option, according to Alan Nixon.
With eight games left in the season, Preston sit 14th in the Championship—nine points clear of the relegation zone and 10 points away from the play-offs. While they are not in immediate danger or serious promotion contention, manager Paul Heckingbottom is already looking ahead to summer recruitment to strengthen the squad.
Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that Wright, a 19-year-old midfielder, has caught Preston’s attention. Despite Norwich having an option to buy him, PNE may still try to make a competing offer, which could exceed £2 million. Ultimately, Wright will decide his future, but Preston are keeping tabs on the situation.
Wright, who had previously made four senior appearances for Manchester City, moved to Norwich in January for his first loan spell. He has featured seven times for the Canaries, starting four matches and coming off the bench in three, though he was an unused substitute in their recent loss to Bristol City.
Preston’s midfield could see changes in the summer. While captain Ben Whiteman remains under contract, Ryan Ledson’s deal is set to expire, leaving uncertainty over his future. Stefan Teitur Thordarson and Ali McCann are both signed for the long term, but beyond them, squad depth is limited. Bringing in a young talent like Wright could bolster their options significantly.
