Lee Hendrie Tips Giorgi Chakvetadze for Summer Exit as Premier League Clubs Circle
Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has backed Giorgi Chakvetadze to leave Watford this summer, with Wolves and Leicester City previously linked with the Georgian playmaker.
Reports from Football League World in December revealed that both Premier League sides were monitoring Chakvetadze, with Everton also keeping an eye on his progress. Although he remained at Vicarage Road beyond the January transfer window, the summer market could reignite interest from those clubs.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer for Tom Cleverleyās side this season, recording two goals and six assists in 37 Championship appearances.
Lee Hendrie Highlights Chakvetadzeās Potential Move
Hendrie has praised Chakvetadze’s performances and suggested that a move could be the next logical step in his development. He believes Leicester Cityāwho are battling relegation from the Premier Leagueācould offer him the stability he needs to unlock his full potential.
> āIāve watched Giorgi Chakvetadze a few times, and heās been a key player for Watford,ā Hendrie told Football League World.
āHeās stood out for a number of reasons, but I think he needs that next move to really push on.
āWatford have had a lot of uncertainty with different managers coming and going, so he might benefit from stability elsewhere.
āThereās definitely more to come from him in terms of goals and assists because heās got the ability.
āIf Leicester do drop down to the Championship, moving to a club with a strong squad and a clear direction could help him thrive.ā
Watford May Be Forced to Sell Chakvetadze
Watford have exceeded expectations this season, but their financial situation may force them to consider selling key assets. Currently 10th in the Championship, they are five points off the play-off places with eight games remaining.
However, with no parachute payments in place for the 2024-25 season, player sales will be crucial. Last season, the club avoided an Ā£11.3 million loss by offloading players like Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr, ultimately turning a Ā£12.8 million profit.
Selling Yaser Asprilla and Ismael Kone last summer helped keep finances balanced, but another big-money departure may be required. Given his performances, Chakvetadze appears to be one of Watfordās most valuable assets, making him a prime candidate for a lucrative transfer.
While losing him would be a blow for Watford, cashing in on the Georgian international might be a necessary decision to maintain financial stability.
