Norwich City Braced for Borja Sainz Exit Amid Inflated Transfer Fee Talks

Norwich City are expected to part ways with star midfielder Borja Sainz this summer, but only if clubs meet an increased asking price.

Following their Championship play-off qualification last season, the Canaries have endured a less impressive campaign this time around, currently sitting mid-table. However, Sainz has been a standout performer, scoring 17 goals in 33 league appearances.

Norwich Likely to Cash In on Sainz

With promotion to the Premier League looking unlikely, Football League Worldā€™s Norwich expert, Zeke Downes, predicts that Sainz will leave at the end of the 2024/25 season. Despite expecting his departure, Downes believes Norwichā€™s reluctance to sell could allow them to command a higher transfer fee in negotiations.

Speaking to FLW about the upcoming transfer window, Downes shared:

ā€œOne prediction for the summer window is that we sell Borja Sainz. Itā€™s not a bold prediction, as he already seems set to leave. But given that we need funds to strengthen the squad, it will be interesting to see if Norwich can drive up the price, especially since the Attanasios (club owners) have stated that selling isnā€™t a necessity.ā€

Norwich Keen to Keep Loanee Jacob Wright

While Norwich are likely to lose Sainz, they are expected to make another key move in the transfer marketā€”securing the permanent signing of loanee Jacob Wright.

The Manchester City midfielder has impressed since arriving on loan in January, featuring in all but one of the Canariesā€™ last eight league matches. Crucially, Norwich included an option to buy in his loan deal, and with Jacob Sorensen potentially leaving and Kenny McLean aging, Wright is seen as a long-term midfield solution.

Downes explained:

ā€œMy second prediction is that we sign Jacob Wright permanently. Thereā€™s a clear reason why Norwich included a purchase option. Heā€™s already playing significant minutes, and with Sorensen likely departing and McLean getting older, Wright seems to be the clubā€™s preferred choice for the number six role. Itā€™s a smart move for the future, and I think the deal will go through.ā€

With a major summer ahead, Norwich could see both departures and reinforcements as they look to rebuild for another push toward the Premier League.
