Swire Shipping Fijian Drua backrower Ratu Meli Derenalagi has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season due to a knee injury sustained in Round 6 against the Western Force two weeks ago.

Head coach Glen Jackson confirmed the news, calling it a major setback for the team, given Derenalagi’s quality and impact. The forward underwent knee surgery last week and is expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks, meaning he will not return this season.

Despite the injury blow, Jackson stated that Drua will not seek an external replacement, as they have sufficient depth within the squad. Instead, development player Isoa Tuwai has been promoted to the senior team after making his debut off the bench against the Brumbies in Round 1.

Jackson also provided an update on other injuries within the squad, mentioning that Kitione Salawa and Ilaisa Droasese are dealing with minor issues but are not facing long-term absences.

Looking ahead, the focus is now on their upcoming clash against the Crusaders, with the team eager to put on a strong performance in front of their home fans. The Drua will face the Crusaders at 3:35 p.m. this Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Other fixtures this weekend include:

Friday: Chiefs vs. Reds (6:05 p.m.)

Saturday: Moana Pasifika vs. Waratahs (1:05 p.m.), Blues vs. Hurricanes (6:05 p.m.), Force vs. Highlanders(8:35 p.m.)
