Rangers will need to move quickly if they want to appoint José Mourinho as their next full-time manager, following a new twist in the race for his signature.
Barry Ferguson is currently leading the team on an interim basis until the end of the season, but the search for a permanent replacement remains ongoing.
Mourinho has been linked with the Rangers job, particularly after he praised the club earlier this season. The highly decorated Portuguese coach has managed top clubs including Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, and is regarded as one of the most successful managers in the sport.
It’s understood Mourinho scoped out the potential of managing Rangers during a recent visit to Ibrox, when his Fenerbahce side faced the Glasgow club in the Europa League.
While Rangers are reportedly keen to lure the 62-year-old away from his post in Turkey, they face stiff competition. According to Globo (5 April), the Brazilian Football Confederation is eyeing Mourinho as a candidate to take charge of the national team.
Though he has yet to manage at international level, the opportunity to coach a footballing powerhouse like Brazil could be a major draw.
If Rangers are serious about bringing Mourinho to Ibrox, they will need to act swiftly to avoid missing out to the five-time World Cup winners.
