Chris Sutton and the Celtic faithful were preparing for a title celebration as Rangers looked set for a loss in Aberdeen.
However, Ianis Hagi had other ideas, rescuing a point with a dramatic late equaliser. Down to ten men, Rangers battled back from two goals behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie.
The result delays Celtic’s Premiership title confirmation, with Rangers’ ongoing Europa League campaign adding a twist to the Parkhead side’s trophy chase.
Asked whether Hagi’s equaliser could generate momentum for Rangers ahead of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Athletic Club, Sutton couldn’t resist taking a jab.
Chris Sutton slams Rangers dugout celebrations
As Celtic edge closer to a fourth straight league title, Sutton took aim at the Rangers coaching staff, calling their reaction to Hagi’s goal “pathetic.”
The Rangers bench was seen celebrating passionately after the Romanian’s curling shot found the net.
“Important is what respect?” Sutton retorted, questioning the significance of the goal. “It’s a draw. Let’s not kid ourselves—the title race is done. Celebrating like that? It’s desperate, really. Just shows where Rangers are at—it’s pathetic.”
Kris Boyd fired back with a quip: “He had plans to celebrate back in Glasgow tonight—he’s fuming. Calm down, mate.”
Rangers’ European run could overshadow Celtic’s season
Despite another underwhelming domestic campaign, Rangers’ European exploits continue to attract attention. Earlier in the season, Celtic benefited from a controversial VAR call to win the Premier Sports Cup final against their rivals.
Now, needing just one point from their remaining five matches to seal the title and with a Scottish Cup semi-final looming against St Johnstone, Celtic are on the brink of another treble—potentially their sixth in nine years.
Yet, despite their dominance, Sutton and many Celtic fans seem preoccupied with Rangers’ European journey—perhaps fearing that another run to a European final could steal some of the spotlight from Parkhead’s potential clean sweep.
