Rangers fans have been waiting patiently for the completion of the 49ers’ takeover.

The agreement for 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh to gain a controlling interest in the Ibrox side had appeared to stall recently. Although a deal had been agreed in principle by the group—led by Paraag Marathe and Cavenagh—legal details were still being finalized.

Concerns had grown over the delay, but those fears now seem to be easing.

Rangers takeover nearing the finish line

The long-awaited takeover appears to be back on track, with previous delays now dismissed as minor setbacks. According to The Scottish Sun (20 April), all parties have denied the deal was faltering, with sources saying it is now “closer than ever.”

Former chairman Dave King is said to view the ambitious American offer as a defining part of his legacy at the club. The group is also understood to have acquired the necessary 51% shareholding to complete the transaction.

Speculation that former director Sandy Easdale’s involvement was needed to seal the deal has reportedly been debunked.

Major summer ahead for the 49ers at Ibrox

Despite the takeover nearing completion, the new owners face a daunting challenge this summer as they look to close the significant gap to Celtic.

Currently trailing their rivals by 15 points in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers are in need of serious rebuilding—both on and off the pitch. Interim manager Barry Ferguson’s future remains unclear, and a squad overhaul is essential, though unlikely to be fully resolved in one window.

Key players like Hamza Igamane and Nicolas Raskin are expected to attract interest from English clubs and could potentially depart.

Nevertheless, the arrival of Marathe and Cavenagh brings fresh optimism. Their leadership could finally put an end to years of internal disputes among shareholders, ushering in a new era at Rangers.

There is a renewed sense that better days are just around the corner for the blue side of Glasgow.
