The Gold Coast Titans are reportedly circling Wests Tigers playmaker Lachlan Galvin, with sources indicating a potential move could happen far sooner than initially anticipated.

Galvin, 19, has been at the centre of a media storm in recent weeks following tensions with the Tigers over a contract standoff, allegations of internal bullying, and a dramatic demotion to reserve grade. While Tigers coach Benji Marshall is believed to be considering reinstating the talented five-eighth for this weekend’s match against Cronulla, the situation at Concord appears increasingly unstable — and rival clubs are watching closely.

The Titans, under new leadership and keen to strengthen their spine, are understood to have stepped up interest in Galvin, with early discussions suggesting they could push for an early release rather than wait until the player’s current deal expires at the end of 2026.

A source close to the Titans told Rugby League Central: “We see Lachlan as a long-term investment. He’s young, incredibly skilled, and could be the playmaker to build a team around. If things continue to sour at the Tigers, there’s a real chance we could land him by the end of this year — not 2027.”

The young star’s camp has already expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment at the Tigers. After rejecting a lucrative contract extension earlier this season, Galvin was demoted to the NSW Cup and has reportedly received little support from sections of the playing group. A legal letter from Galvin’s representatives was sent to the club last week, raising concerns about his welfare and accusing teammates of bullying via social media.

While Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson has tried to shut down public discussion of the matter — even cutting off questions in a recent post-match press conference — the pressure on the club to resolve the situation is growing. With the Tigers’ on-field performances remaining inconsistent and a long-suffering fanbase desperate for stability, the club may have little choice but to consider a release if tensions escalate.

Gold Coast’s move is timely. New Titans coach Des Hasler is looking to inject youth and energy into a squad that has struggled for consistency in recent years. Pairing Galvin with a strong forward pack and experienced halves partner could accelerate the club’s climb up the NRL ladder.

Although Parramatta has also been heavily linked with a 2027 move for Galvin, the Titans’ ambition to strike early may change the dynamic of the race. Bulldogs GM Phil Gould recently ruled his club out of the running, narrowing the field and giving the Titans a clearer path to negotiations.

For now, Galvin remains a Wests Tigers player — but for how long is uncertain. The next few weeks could be decisive as the young star weighs his options, and as the Titans look to pounce on a rare opportunity to secure one of the NRL’s most exciting young talents well ahead of schedule.

If a deal is struck in the coming months, it would not only be a major statement from the Gold Coast club but also a seismic shift in the future of one of rugby league’s brightest rising stars.
