In an effort to stave off an imminent return to the Championship, Leicester City has identified its latest target and plans to add another forward to their roster in January.
The best of the promoted teams is Leicester City.
Early in the Premier League season, Steve Cooper has led Leicester out of the relegation zone. The Foxes are currently three points above the drop and in 15th place, ahead of Southampton and Ipswich, who were promoted from the Championship alongside them.
It comes after a challenging summer in which they were hindered by transfer and financial fair play difficulties, but they ultimately succeeded in spending more than £70 million on new players.
Facundo Buonanotte, a Brighton loanee, has been their standout player thus far this season with three goals and two assists. Abdul Fatawu, 20, has also had a strong start at the King Power after securing a permanent transfer.
Jamie Vardy, meanwhile, is still dependable in front of goal. With four goals and an assist, the 37-year-old former non-league striker leads the Foxes goalscoring leaderboards.
Given his age, he should ideally be able to start every game, but without him leading the line, Cooper’s team appears relatively weak. In the one game Vardy missed this season, the Foxes were soundly defeated by Manchester United, and Jordan Ayew, a free agent, seemed much behind the pace.
For Leicester to continue avoiding the bottom, January reinforcements are essential, and they seem to have discovered a possible deal.
Leicester City is interested in a striker from Ligue 1. According to AfricaFoot [Via Sport Witness], Leicester City is eager to sign Mostafa Mohamed, a Ligue 1 outcast from Nantes, this winter.
After a successful loan period, the Egyptian forward joined the French team from Galatasaray eighteen months ago. However, following a great debut season, he has seen his playing time cut this time around. This season, he has only started four of his team’s Ligue 1 games and has only scored once.
According to the source, Leicester is “looking to sign” the forward in the New Year because he wants to leave the team and wants more playing time. It is believed that Nantes is eager to cash in on him for 10 million euros (£8 million), which would be nearly twice the amount they paid for him when they signed him. He is now under contract until 2027 and earns £28,000 per week in France.
Cooper’s team needs a new striker, and Mohamed has a track record of success. He also has an agent in common with summer acquisition Caleb Okoli, which may make a transaction even simpler to close during what is usually a difficult window for business. Is he the person who could lift Leicester City to safety?
