Rangers Forced to Share Points in St Mirren Draw

Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw against St Mirren on Saturday, missing the chance to claim a much-needed win.

On a weekend when Celtic celebrated lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy, Rangers were given another reminder of the growing gap between the two rivals.

Nico Raskin had edged the visitors ahead in the second half with a well-taken goal, but St Mirren battled back to deny Rangers all three points.

Raskin at the Centre of Controversy

Raskin was one of the few Rangers players who could take some credit from the match, delivering an energetic performance throughout.

Just three minutes after scoring, the 24-year-old was shown a yellow card for a challenge, and moments later, St Mirren players appealed for a second booking after another foul as Raskin competed for the ball.

Despite protests from the home side, the referee opted not to issue another yellow, allowing play to continue.

While it was a tough tackle, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher, speaking live on Sky Sports News (28 April), defended the decision, saying: “If I was a player and got a second yellow for that, I’d be furious. It’s a foul, yes, but nowhere near enough for a second booking. Not every foul after a yellow card is an automatic red.”

Looking Ahead to Change at Rangers

Following their exit from the Europa League at the hands of Athletic Bilbao, Rangers’ season has effectively wound down with little left to play for.

It has been a deeply disappointing campaign for the Light Blues, but with the proposed takeover by 49ers Enterprises moving closer, major changes could soon be on the horizon at Ibrox.

Patience will be required from the supporters if the takeover is finalized, with significant rebuilding needed to restore pride in the Rangers shirt.

Nevertheless, the long-term ambition remains to challenge Celtic once again for titles and trophies.

While Saturday’s draw with St Mirren shows there is still work to do, better days could be closer than they appear for the Gers.
