Highly-rated Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has fuelled speculation about his future by hinting he could leave the Championship club — potentially opening the door to a move to Rangers.
The 36-year-old German, who started his coaching career at RB Leipzig, remains a surprise contender for the Ibrox hot seat, with Leicester City also reportedly interested. The vacancy at Rangers is expected to open up at the end of the season when interim manager Barry Ferguson steps down. Names like Steven Gerrard and Marco Rose are also in the frame, with Gerrard the frontrunner due to his past success at the club.
Rohl, however, remained vague about his commitment to Wednesday following their final Championship fixture — a 1-1 draw with Watford. Speaking to The Star, he said: “My picture is clear, and the club knows it. A quick decision is important so everyone knows the direction we’re going in. But it’s now in the hands of the club.”
He added that whether players or coaches are approached by teams from higher divisions, it’s a sign of the progress made over the past 18–19 months: “Even if it brings disappointment, it’s still recognition of our hard work. But now the club needs clarity — it’s bigger than one individual.”
Rohl emphasized the need for timely decisions regarding contracts and pre-season plans, warning of the dangers of delayed action.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ incoming US ownership group — led by Andrew Cavenagh and backed by 49ers Enterprises — are actively preparing for next season and the managerial appointment could be central to their plans.
