But according to the journalist for the Daily Record, the right-back is unsure if he will feature in every match anymore.
“The Rangers Football Club captain no longer knows if he’s going to be playing from game to game,” he said on the Daily Record’s Hotline. He is unreliable if it’s a huge game. “Yeah, Sports Science says this,” is not how you explain things. This is a significant problem.
Just because James Tavernier is the Rangers captain doesn’t mean he should be selected.
Even though Tavernier is the captain, his status alone shouldn’t guarantee him a starting spot.
He needs perform consistently in practice and in games to earn his spot on the squad.
The 33-year-old’s recent performances have fallen short of expectations, especially in high-stakes games where dependability is essential, as evidenced by Clement’s seeming hesitancy regarding his role.
It makes sense for the Belgian to look at other options if Tavernier isn’t establishing himself as the top right-back on the pitch, particularly if the statistics support it.
The Englishman is aware that he is no longer at the top of his game, but it may be a challenging conversation.
Tavernier will want to be remembered positively by the Ibrox supporters as his testimonial approaches, so he must comply with the manager’s decision.
